This terracotta bas-relief is inspired by the tradition of medieval Armenian miniatures and is carefully handcrafted. I personally create the molds and reproduce each piece by hand in limited editions, finishing every work with hand-applied acrylic paints. This artisanal process ensures that each bas-relief is unique.
The bas-relief depicts the Nativity of Jesus, laid in the manger beside Mary. Accompanied by the ox and the donkey, the Child gazes toward the animals. Angels and shepherds are also present: after receiving the announcement of the birth, they came to the cave where the Holy Family stayed. The three Magi, arriving from the East and following the comet, bring precious gifts worthy of a king.
According to one tradition, the Magi were Armenian — their names, Melkon, Gaspar, and Baghdasar, appear to be of Armenian origin. They represent three different ages of life, as a symbol of the totality of human existence.
